Comprehensive Plans
Comprehensive Plans are vital to communities because they provide a long-term, strategic roadmap that guides growth, development, and public investment. The layout and design of each client’s Comprehensive Plan was customized to reflect the unique character of the community and to effectively convey the most important concepts of these foundational planning documents. I have been the lead designer on a number of Comprehensive Plans, including:
- City of Dunkirk, NY
- Town of Esopus, NY
My contributions to the development of Comprehensive Plans included:
- Designing a layout that maximized usability for a range of audiences that included municipal officials, consultants, business leaders, and the public.
- Establishing clear organization with distinct and easily identifiable sections as well as a consistent hierarchy of headings and subheadings for easy navigation through documents that typically exceeded 150 pages.
- Developing maps, charts, infographics, and diagrams that illustrate trends, conditions, and plans.
- Effectively using photos and renderings to demonstrate current conditions and convey a tone of aspiration around projected outcomes of planned projects.
